What do you do?
I’m a Colour me Beautiful accredited Image Consultant who is passionate about helping others look and feel their best in the clothes they wear.
What inspired you to set up your own business?
I wanted a career where I felt fulfilled, but could also balance it with my family life.
How old were your children when your business launched?
One child, a daughter then aged 18 months.
What was the most difficult aspect of starting up your home business?

It was finding affordable childcare, when initially generating little income.
How did you finance your business start-up?
Personal savings
What has been your most useful or valuable resource / tool / advice when starting up your own home business?
The professional training I received as a ‘Colour Me Beautiful’ Image Consultant, being given a listing on their website, and a supply of initial customers.
What has been your most successful marketing activity?
Networking, referrals
What has been the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome in terms of business success?
Juggling limited working time with family commitments
How do you separate working time from family time?
I work in school hours, a few evenings and ad hoc Saturdays, to meet customer demand. Sundays are ‘family day’!
What has been the biggest benefit to your family, of you being self-employed?
Being able to manage school runs & spend more time with my daughter on a daily basis.
Any top tips you can give to other mums who are considering starting up a home-based business?
Have a long term plan, and know the steps to get there. Get out & network with other women, to give you the support you need and build the confidence that you can do it.
